How to Install Corona Renderer 10 and the Offline Material Library

Step 1: Downloading Corona Renderer 10

  • Begin by navigating to the official Corona Renderer website. Simply search for “Corona Renderer download” in your web browser.
  • Click on the “Download Chaos Corona” link.

Step 2: Downloading the Offline Material Library

  • This is a recommended step if you’re installing Corona Render on multiple computers or have a limited internet connection.
  • Search for “Corona Offline Material Library” and visit the Chaos Support page for offline mode.
  • Scroll to find the material library packages compatible with various Corona Renderer versions and select the one you need.

Step 3: Installation Process

  • After downloading, place the offline installer in the same folder as your Corona installer. Note that the material library file has no file extension.
  • Run the installer by double-clicking it. On the welcome screen, accept the terms and conditions to proceed.

Step 4: Choosing the Installation Type

  • Typical Installation: This is straightforward if you’re installing Corona for the first time. However, it may not be the best choice for updates, as it may not install Corona for new versions of 3ds Max.
  • Custom Installation (Recommended): Offers full control over the installation process. You can select specific 3ds Max versions to update, opt-in for the Cosmos service, license server, NVIDIA AI denoiser, and the Corona Material library. Disabling the DR server and standalone options might be suitable if not needed. The Image editor, useful for editing CXR files, is recommended to be enabled.
  • Unpack Files Option: Ideal for deploying on multiple computers. This option allows you to unpack all Corona files into a designated folder (e.g., “CoronaUnpack”). It also enables running different versions of Corona without a full installation.

Step 5: Finalizing the Installation

  • For the custom and unpack files options, follow the prompts to complete the installation or file unpacking.
  • Post-installation, copy the necessary files from the “CoronaUnpack” folder to your 3ds Max and Corona installation directories. Ensure the correct folders are selected to avoid misplacing files. If updating, choose to override existing files when prompted.

Step 6: Cleaning Up and Organizing

  • In the Corona folder, delete any versions not installed on your computer.
  • Copy relevant folders to the Program Files\Corona directory.
  • Don’t forget to copy the scatter folder from the Chaos Group folder to the Program Files\Chaos Group directory.
  • Alternatively, you can copy entire folders like Autodesk, Chaos Group, and Corona directly to the Program Files, ensuring the destination is correctly selected.

Conclusion

  • Whether you choose the typical, custom, or unpack files option, the final installation will include the same core components. Custom installation provides more flexibility, especially for updates.
